Project Allenby Connaught estate was one of the largest projects procured by the Ministry of Defence (MoD) providing Single Living Accommodation Modernisation (SlAM) for the British Army on Salisbury Plain and at Aldershot.

We were involved back in 2010 through Corus Living Solutions (later bought out by Tata Steel and Rollalong) who were awarded the work by Aspire Defence, a consortium of Carillion, KBR and HSBC Bank.

  • Each modular building comprised of 36 en-suite Single Living Accommodation flats, 6 utility rooms, 3 communal rooms and 3 baggage rooms
  • Modules were manufactured offsite and sent to site complete with all fittings, fixtures, windows, doors and M&E pre-installed
  • Erection time for a completed building was 4 days!
  • Modules were manufactured in a high-tech production facility in Shotton, Deeside. Manufacturing capacity was 3000 units per annum.

Optimising the production line so the finished modules were coming off every 80 mins meant Corus could keep to their schedule so one building could be fully snagged and handed over to the MoD every week. Compared to conventional construction this produced a reduction of 62% in time.

This still remains the largest UK modular construction project to date.
